What is the Patch Clamp technique?

The patch clamp is a versatile and high-resolution technique that provides a direct measurement of the ionic currents and/or the membrane potential in living cells.

Depending on the adopted configuration, it allows to investigate a wide range of electrical properties in cells and tissue sections, from the neuron firing activity in brain slices to the single channel events recordings in heterologous expression systems.
